There are ways to go to the beach and wear “modest” beach attire that would still be considered immodest in every other setting.

I feel like we run into the quandary of people who are considered to have more appealing bodies by our society’s standard of comeliness. Those people will have a hard time ever fitting into the category of “modest” because their very being causes some to stumble.

An example would be an overweight man and a toned and physically fit man going to the beach wearing swimming trunks and flip flops. Both are dressed in exactly the same thing, but because one is considered more appealing than the other, his choice of clothing (or lack thereof) is considered immodest.

I don’t think our answer is beachgoing in sackcloth, but rather, a growing in holiness. Specifically growing more Christ-like in our self-control and modeling 1 tim 5:1-2 in how we relate to one another.

it says:

“Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.”

A brother would not lust after his sister nor his mother. This argument can be attacked, but i feel like we would do best to use our best judgment when going to the beach and EXAMINING OUR MOTIVES for everything that we do. Are we dressing to draw attention to ourselves, or are we doing so to the glory of God?

abortion is horrible.

I think social drinking is ok, but i don’t feel comfortable getting social beers because i feel like i’d be leaning in the direction of causing people to stumble.

After watching the movie, I met the guy in the row behind me and we talked for a while at the movie and how it related to abortion. It was very interesting to see how closely related these to issues are. It was a great conversation. I’m glad there is someone else out there who thought the same thing.

]]> By: twoBlondes_andaBrunette https://jarodhinton.com/a-rant-or-three/#comment-635 Fri, 16 Mar 2007 13:33:00 +0000 https://preacherdad.com/a-rant-or-three/#comment-635 Well, I would say that a reason that swimming suits are different then clothes are yes, because of where and why they’re worn.  Kinda like another country’s modesty is very different from ours…  The water is another coulture in America.  I dunno…maybe. 🙂 haha, it sounds stupid I guess.  All I know is that what I wear to swim in is not something that I would wear anywhere else.  I don’t think it’s immodest though because I’m swimming.  It’s like a whole other scale of modest.  I do agree though that no matter what, a bikini is not ever modest…..  I think that modesty is different to each individual (between them and God), but I think that there’s a certain point where you’re immodest no matter what you think.  BUUUTTT…now I’M going on a rant 🙂 haha. 

I’ll stop. 

Nice to have an update.  Maybe I can go see Amazing Grace someday, that’d be fun.

]]> By: Marvelanne https://jarodhinton.com/a-rant-or-three/#comment-634 Fri, 16 Mar 2007 13:20:00 +0000 https://preacherdad.com/a-rant-or-three/#comment-634 Great post…when you rant you really rant!  Last year we went to Johnson Beach in P’cola Florida.  The group we went with has similar standards of modesty to ours.  Everyone thought us girls were crazy because we had on long swim suits with shorts and were covered modestly…and all the guy’s had on shirts.  If more people would do it…I dare say the world would be a different place.

What an inspiration the movie was.  My brothers and I saw it Monday evening.  If I could I would take on abortion…but it is not something I could do by myself.  So for now I pray mightily for those fighting the battle already.
