How have your thoughts changed since the good Senator from Tennessee has removed himself from contention?  From your main points…

Philosophy of Government: 
I am a little worried in this area.  He does seem to be more of a GooGoo instead of conservative.  While not as bad as a McCain administration… (Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act, No Child Left Behind Act…) it still does cause me concerns. 

Taxes:
As much as I hate it… I think this is becoming my concentration area.  (Or at least, government finance…)  I have never seen opposition to the FairTax actually able to formulate a reasonable argument which withstood a rebuttal.  However, it would not work without a repeal of the 16th Amendment.  (This is based on conversations with State Ways & Means staff, while I was one of them, and a former member of the national Ways & Means committee…) I haven’t heard Huckabee’s position on such a repeal. 

Education:
Without disputing your points, I would just add the following.  Huckabee has been endorsed by HSLDA.  From their endorsement, “

Mike Huckabee, as governor, was the first to appoint a homeschooler to the Arkansas State
Board of Education, and to our knowledge the first to do so in any
state. He is adamantly opposed to the United Nations Convention on the
Rights of the Child and is committed to stopping the erosion of
parental rights.”

I am not saying Huckabee is a perfect candidate.  But, I do think he is the best candidate left standing.  McCain’s moderate/liberal leanings are well known.  Romney, if he is actually a conservative, became one when he decided to run for president.  (Ruth, Jill, Clint, Brandon, and Brian would kill me if they saw this… I know WAY to many people on his campaign staff…) 

I do know one thing… It is going to be an interesting road to November…  Just as a sidebar, Huckabee is going to be in Macon on Sunday at 3:00, just in case you aren’t long winded…

Enough of politics….where’s new pictures?  Hope to get up that way soon and see the little fellow….and y’all too, of course!  But mainly him!!!

thanks for that townhall link…i don’t know much about politics at all. I know that I was raised to vote democrat (i can remember hillary clinton visiting my church in brooklyn when she was campaigning to be a senator) and then I started to approach politics with an open mind as i got older.

Secondly, it is possible (though difficult) to be a moral person and still have a career in Hollywood. Kirk Cameron is an example. And as far as I know, I’ve never seen Fred Thompson doing sleezy stuff in his movies or TV shows. Simply working in Hollywood is not enough to claim a person has low morals. It depends on what kind of “Hollywood” he does.

One last thing. Ronald Regan was also married twice, and had a career in Hollywood. (Which had plenty of problems even back then.) His Christianity was questionable. He certainly made mistakes and did things I do not agree with. Yet, in spite of all this, he was an upstanding man of great character and courage. I think Fred Thompson has made mistakes (and probably learned from them) but is now a man of strong character and high morals. He has a loving wife and children, and seems to care very much about them also. I’m not condoning or excusing the sins he’s commited, but I don’t think they are so great as to change my mind about the nature of his character or wisdom now.

Can’t say I have any respect for a man who makes those kinds of choices.  Frankly, a man who marries someone young enough to almost be his own grand daughter and she is now going to be our First lady (should he be elected) and he has children who look like they should be his great-grandchildren would be kind of embarrassing.  Have you seen many picture of her, before he started running for President?  I would describe her as looking a bit trashy and not at all like a moral, upstanding, classy woman like Laura Bush appears to be.

When asked about how he believes when it comes to religion his answer was something like he was OK with Jesus and Jesus was OK with him..as far as he knew…huh? What does THAT mean?!?!  He doesn’t ever attend church, unless he is visiting his Mother.  Doesn’t sound to me like a man who has a personal relationship with Christ. 

We will be voting for Mike Huckabee – not a perfect man but we feel he reflects our morals and values as Believers far more than Fred Thompson…just our opinion.
